England Woodland Burial Parks

Ceremonial Court
This is the sacred heart of the site and is protected from the everyday by building design and the landscape device of a living wall.

The Ceremonial Court is the collective term for the Gathering Hall, The Ceremonial Courtyard and the place of ceremony, The Woodland Hall.

These three elements are geometrically one entity. The use of the seven sided form establishes these spaces in the illogical realm of the sacred.

The outer heptagon of the Gathering Hall corresponds to the inner heptagon of the Woodland Hall. The interconnecting geometry between the two buildings determines the size of the courtyard.

The courtyard provides time and space, during the short walk between the buildings, for individuals to move out of the ambience of social gathering and prepare for the ceremony where love and the familiarity of human form must separtate.
