Scotland The Roundhouse Findhorn

The Roundhouse, Findhorn, designed by Graham Brown is a family home built to house three generations together with studio space for an architectural practice.

Findhorn is a small fishing village in the north of Scotland situated on a tidal bay 26 miles east of Inverness along the Moray coast. The Roundhouse is located on the east shore of the Findhorn Bay, on a south-facing peninsular.

The form was inspired by a nautilus shell unearthed during initial site excavations.

This inspiration developed into the Roundhouse design which comprised of three interlocking spirals imposed upon a fifteen beam Reciprocal Frame structure.

The south-facing location, form, function and materials were organised to create a passive solar, energy efficient, sustainable design.
